New Zealand has many historic links to the UK, and has inherited many of its golfing traditions from there, as well as created some of its own. As a result, golf is a popular sport in New Zealand, and the country is home to many different golf courses.

Golf Vacations In Taupo New Zealand

Taupo is located in the center of the North Island of New Zealand. This central location is the reason many visitors choose Taupo for a New Zealand holiday but in particular a golfing vacation.

Taupo itself has 4 courses and the world class Cape Kidnappers course plus several other excellent courses are all within one hour's drive from Taupo.

Lake Taupo was formed in a massive eruption around 200 AD, that covered the plateau with free draining pumice, enabling golf to be played 365 days of the year.

Wairakei International and the Kinloch Club are two international courses within minutes of the town center.

Kinloch Club [http://www.alpinelake.co.nz/kinloch-golf-course/] on the shores of the lake, was designed as a links course by Jack Nicklaus. Designed around a natural environment and with lovely lake views it is the only Jack Nicklaus Signature course in New Zealand. Opened in 2007, it was ranked in the top ten new golf courses in the world by the US Travel and Leisure magazine.

Wairakei International is located in the geothermal area, surrounded by a pest fence to create a sanctuary for native birds and is just five minutes drive from the town centre. Comprising 450 acres of natural countryside, and with the championship tees 6444 metres long plus 108 large well-positioned bunkers, it is a true but fair challenge.

Tahara and Centennial are two local courses that provide economical and enjoyable golfing of a high standard and are conveniently located right in the town.

The world class Cape Kidnappers Course, situated inside a working farm and overlooking a gannet colony, is only an hour away from Taupo. The views of the coastline are spectacular while spa facilities and the clubhouse are exceptional. There are overnight accommodation options on the property, but most golfers elect to return to their Taupo accommodation after their round.

Visitors may fly into Auckland International Airport and then drive the four hours to Taupo or alternatively fly on down to Taupo Airport. There are excellent motels and lodges in Taupo and a wide variety of sightseeing options to complement a perfect golfing vacation.
